December Global Holidays List

Below is a list of the most common Winter Holidays celebrated around the world, along with their dates and significance.

Hanukkah: (28 Nov- 6 Dec, 2021)

Hanukkah means “dedication” in Hebrew. Chanukah, commonly known as the Festival of Lights, is a Jewish festival.

Hanukkah is observed for eight days and nights, unlike other December global holidays. With an additional candle on the menorah lit each evening. Traditional songs, games, and dances are performed to commemorate the event, as they are for other December festivals around the world.

The festival will take place between November 28 and December 6 in 2021. Jews all throughout the world celebrate Hanukkah.

World AIDS Day

World AIDS Day is one of the lesser-known global holidays in December.

Since 1988, December 1 has been designated as a day to raise awareness about AIDS and to remember people who have died as a result of the disease. Many individuals wear red ribbons to show support for persons living with HIV and AIDS, and it serves as an excellent reminder to get tested for AIDS and other infections on a regular basis.

World AIDS Day has broken down stigmas and promoted awareness about the disease, despite the fact that it is not one of the most joyous December global holidays around the world.

Christmas

Christmas is the most widely observed December global holiday, and while it celebrates the birth of Jesus, it has evolved into a symbol of joy and hope for people of all faiths.

Christmas has songs, movies, and decorations, and traditions include everything from decorating trees to lighting advent candles.

This is one of the global festivals in December that you’ll witness no matter where you go in the wKwanzaa

Kwanzaa

Kwanzaa is an African-American heritage celebration that takes place from December 26 to January 1.

Unlike some of the other December global holidays, Kwanzaa was founded in 1966. Lighting candles, notably black, red, and green candles to depict the Pan-African flag, is part of the ceremony.

The lighting of the lights each day emphasises a different value: unity, self-determination, collaborative effort and responsibility, cooperative economy, purpose, creativity, and faith.

Kwanzaa is also a time for families to get together for special dinners and exchange gifts.

New Year’s Eve celebrations

The list of December global holidays would be incomplete if it didn’t include the most important one: New Year’s Eve.

While each culture has its own traditions, they all think that now is the time to let go of the old and welcome in the new. People prepare for a fresh start in the new year by clearing up their homes and making resolutions.

Families and friends countdown the final seconds of the day as the night draws to a close, and fireworks light up the sky in many areas of the world at midnight.
